On Thursday February 16, 2006, there will be a symposium with Dr. Robert Menzies at the Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam. The symposium is jointly organized by the professorial chair Pentecostalism and the professorial chair Theology of the Charismatic Renewal.

Robert Menzies' book The Development of Early Christian Pneumatology with Special Reference to Luke-Acts (JSNTSup, 54; Sheffield: JSOT Press, 1991) provoked a lot of reactions in the world of New Testament scholarship and within Pentecostal circles. The revised edition Empowered for Witness. The Spirit in Luke-Acts (JPTSup, 6; Sheffield: SAP, 1994) made this work available to an even broader audience. In Spirit and Power. Foundation of Pentecostal Experience, co-authored with William Menzies, Robert Menzies replies to James Dunn and Max Turner. In dialogue with current biblical and theological scholarship, Menzies makes a plea for a thoughtful Pentecostal theology on the Holy Spirit. A theology that is more based on the writings of Luke than on the writings of Paul.

Dr. Menzies will give an introduction on 'The Lucan Perspective on the Baptism with the Holy Spirit'. Professor dr. C. van der Kooi will respond from a Reformed perspective and Dr. A. Zwiep will respond from an Evangelical perspective. In the afternoon there will be group discussions and a plenary discussion between the audience and the speakers.
