I am an assistant professor of anthropology in the Department of Anthropology, California State University, Sacramento.
Orignally I am from Ethiopia and did most of my research work in Ethiopia. I am interested in religion in general and Evangelical christianity in particular. I was a Max Planck research fellow in Halle, where I worked on sacred boundaries and secular connections in southern Ethiopia. There I examined how religions (including Charismatic Christianity) create boundaries between otherwise closely related people and how ordinary people find ways of mainitaining social networks that don't necessarily fit the prescription of religious institutions.
