Sophia Omokanye

I am a postdoctoral-level researcher and a trained Catholic theologian turned ethnographer.

For my PhD, I worked with Nigerian Pentecostal communities across Nigeria, Germany, Austria, and Toronto.

During my time at the University of Toronto, I began a long-term sonic ethnography project on urban–suburban African Pentecostalism.

I am currently working on a digital ethnography project centered on female embodiment in digital spaces, with a focus on Nigerian Pentecostal churches, particularly the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) and Winners’ Chapel.
