My PhD research is concerned with urban neo-Pentecostalism in Uganda. It focuses on ideas of fortune and misfortune, with a believer-centred approach, and a particular interest in how these ideas are gendered. The research takes a multi-case study approach (looking at two churches) with longitudinal interviews and ethnographic observation. Previous research has looked at female converts in Thailand and how their ideas of marriage and womanhood changed post-conversion.
